Neighborhood

There are tons of restaurants, bars, shops and historic sites to see in Casco Viejo. I have an apartment manual with suggestions that is constantly being updated as new things open all the time. I try places first before recommending them. The fish market and San Felipe Neri produce market are right in the entrance of Casco Viejo. There is a Rey supermarket like 5 minutes walking which is fancier than Machetazo supermarket with is also 5 minutes, just past Santa Ana Plaza.

Cinta costera (street in the water) is right before casco viejo and you can walk there. You can rent bicycles at the entrance of the neighborhood. The Canal is about 15-20 minutes and Albrook Mall and Albrok Airport are 10 minutes away by car. Tocumen airport (without traffic) is 25 minutes away.

Access

The building is small, people who live in it are families, and it has no common areas. There is a restaurant called Hippies next door and a small bar called Los del Barrio downstairs.

Space

It's a complete apartment for the guests to use. It has two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the second one with a bunk bed, bottom is a double bed and top a single. Both bedrooms have air conditioning. A fully equipped kitchen with an open living room area with a sofa and a dining table. Outside is a huge terrace with a hammock and chairs that wraps around the apartment. Has hot water, washer /drier and good WiFi. It is possible to park on the street free of charge.

Casco viejo is the preferred destination for tourist since you can walk to the best restaurants and bars. It is a very lively area which is why I put sound proof windows and insulation on the walls. I am constantly giving maintenance to the place, painting, getting new sheets / towels, etc. The first episode of the third season of Casa del Papel was filmed in this apartment where Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó) stayed.

Transit

Uber works quite well in Panama. You can buy a local SIM card for $2 and put data. Local taxis have the habit of saying "no voy" I don't go there. You can take them but you need to agree on the ride and price first. They shouldn't charge you more than $5-7 anywhere within the city. There is one metro line, the closest stop would be 5 de mayo but it's a 15 minute walk to the apartment. Metro line 1 cost .35. There is an electric bus that takes people around Casco Viejo and to 5 de mayo metro stop, but it only goes every 30 minutes. We don't really use the local buses much since taxis are cheap, but you can use them if you wanted to go to places nearby like Gamboa or outside of the city.
